Spider veins (not to be confused with varicose veins) are dilated blood vessels that have a branching pattern and are commonly found on the thighs and lower legs. They may be a result of weight changes, aging, pregnancy or genetic predisposition. Dr. Ziakas uses non-surgical sclerotherapy to treat these vessels. It is comfortably done in the clinic without anesthetic. The treatment that best fits your needs and expectations can be further discussed with your surgeon during your consultation.
Patients considering spider vein treatment should be in good health and have realistic expectations. Repeat treatments may be needed to maintain a good result.
Most patients tolerate the procedure well and in an office setting. Over the counter Tylenol or Motrin suffice for postoperative pain control. Some bruising and swelling are expected but improve over several days.
All patients considering elective surgery should abstain from smoking, including secondhand smoke and avoid any nicotine containing products, both before and after surgery. Dr. Ziakas strongly advises all his patients to quit smoking for good. All patients are advised to use a good quality sunscreen when outdoors (minimum SPF 30) to minimize the hazardous effects of sun radiation on the skin. The majority of patients are able to return to their routine activities in few days.Full List of Non-Surgical Procedures
